ASSESSMENT TYPES
A. Comprehensive Assessment Framework
The School maintains a comprehensive assessment system designed to measure academic growth, mastery of standards, social-emotional learning (SEL) development, and student engagement. Assessments are used to support instructional planning, targeted intervention, mastery-based grading, voucher accountability, accreditation compliance, and continuous school improvement.
This policy governs all assessments administered by the School, including digital, hybrid, diagnostic, formative, summative, SEL-related, and state-mandated assessments.
B. Diagnostic Assessments
Diagnostic assessments are administered to identify baseline skills and learning needs. These assessments may occur at the beginning of the school year, upon student enrollment, and periodically in core academic subjects.
Examples include, but are not limited to:
- IXL Diagnostic Assessments
- Reading benchmark assessments
- Math placement diagnostics
- Writing baseline samples
C. Formative Assessments
Formative assessments are administered regularly to inform instruction and monitor ongoing student progress. These assessments may include:
- Exit tickets
- Quick checks for understanding
- Short quizzes
- Teacher-created assessments
- IXL skill recommendations
- Thrively SEL journal reflections
D. Summative Assessments
Summative assessments evaluate mastery of learning objectives and may include:
- End-of-unit or end-of-course assessments
- Performance-based tasks
- Project-based mastery demonstrations
- Portfolio submissions
E. State-Mandated Assessments
Students participating in voucher or state-funded programs may be required to complete state-mandated assessments, including standardized tests, literacy screenings, benchmark evaluations, and accountability measures. The School complies fully with all applicable state testing laws and regulations.
F. SEL and Wellness Assessments
SEL and wellness assessments are used exclusively for developmental and support purposes and are not used for academic grading. These may include:
- Thrively Strengths Profile
- Hope Gauge
- Wellness checks
- Student self-reflections
- SEL growth indicators
