Definition of Truancy
A student may be considered truant if they:
- Miss required classes without excuse
- Fail to engage in virtual learning
- Stop submitting work
- Repeatedly log in without participation
Truancy Thresholds
A student is flagged as truant when:
- 5 unexcused absences in 30 days OR
- 10 unexcused absences in a semester OR
- 3 consecutive days with no engagement OR
- Voucher attendance guidelines are violated
Truancy Intervention Steps
- Teacher outreach within 24 hours
- Parent/guardian contact
- Attendance contract
- SST referral
- Mandatory conference
- Hybrid attendance requirement (if needed)
- Daily check-ins
- Two-week engagement plan
- Administrative review
- Referral to truancy officer (if required)
Voucher students are reported per state law.
Attendance-Based Consequences
- Early warning notices (after 3 unexcused absences)
- Attendance Improvement Plan
- Loss of privileges (extracurriculars, hybrid access, events, field trips)
- Administrative review for conditional enrollment or schedule modification
- Involuntary withdrawal if a student stops attending or violates voucher requirements
