MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS PROTOCOLS
Identification of Crisis Situations
Crisis indicators may include, but are not limited to:
- Suicidal ideation or statements
- Threats of self-harm or harm to others
- Sudden withdrawal or emotional collapse
- Aggressive or dangerous behaviors
- Evidence or reports of abuse or neglect
- Significant distress reported by peers or caregivers
Crisis Response – Online Learning Environment
- Stabilize communication with the student
- Keep the student on camera when possible
- Notify school leadership or counselor immediately
- Contact parent/guardian
- Engage emergency services if required
- Document the incident thoroughly
- Arrange follow-up supports and monitoring
Crisis Response – Hybrid Learning Environment
- Move the student to a supervised, safe location
- Alert the hybrid center director
- Notify school leadership
- Contact parent/guardian
- Contact emergency services if needed
- Develop a safety plan
- Schedule a follow-up SST meeting
Re-entry Following a Crisis
Students may return to instruction following:
- A parent/guardian conference
- Development or review of a safety plan
- Mental health clearance when required
- Identification of necessary accommodations or supports
