BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION PLANS
The School uses a tiered intervention and consequence system to address misconduct consistently, teach replacement behaviors, and ensure a safe learning environment. Responses are progressive and based on severity, frequency, and impact. Interventions are documented in the student record.
Tiered Behavior Intervention System
Tier 1 — Universal Supports
- Redirection and reteaching expectations
- Coaching and SEL reminders
- Digital citizenship lessons
- Class expectation reviews
Tier 2 — Targeted Supports
- Parent/guardian communication
- Reflection forms and restorative tasks
- Behavior check-ins
- Student Support Team (SST) involvement
- Temporary technology restrictions
- Goal-setting with teacher
Tier 3 — Intensive Interventions
- Behavior Success Plan
- Administrative involvement
- Required parent conference
- Increased monitoring and structured supports
- Temporary removal from online class if needed
- Mandatory hybrid attendance (when used as a structured support and available)
Tier 4 — Administrative Action
- Suspension (in-school online and/or hybrid)
- Hybrid center exclusion (temporary)
- Loss of technology privileges
- Conditional enrollment
Tier 5 — Severe Action
- Long-term suspension
- Involuntary withdrawal/expulsion procedures
- Referral to legal authorities when required
Classroom-Level Response Procedures
Minor Misconduct (Teacher-Managed)
- Teacher redirection
- Reminder of expectations
- Private chat or breakout conversation
- Digital reflection task
- Parent contact if repeated
- Documentation as needed
Moderate Misconduct (Targeted Intervention)
- Parent notification
- Behavior Success Plan initiation
- SST referral (as appropriate)
- Temporary removal from virtual breakout rooms (as needed)
- Re-teaching expectations in small group
- Hybrid support session (if applicable and available)
Major Misconduct (Administrative Response)
Major violations may include bullying, harassment, threats, physical aggression (hybrid), persistent or severe academic dishonesty, safety violations, and serious online misconduct.
Response steps may include:
- Immediate administrative involvement
- Parent/guardian contact
- Written incident report
- Behavior plan development or revision
- Possible suspension
- Possible technology access removal and/or hybrid attendance removal
- Re-entry conference prior to return to full participation
Online Discipline Referral Procedure
Teachers may submit a referral for:
- Persistent disruption
- Inappropriate behavior during class
- Academic dishonesty
- Harassment or cyberbullying
- Non-compliance with staff direction
Administration will review referrals within 48 hours and notify families regarding next steps.
Temporary Removal from Virtual Class
Students may be temporarily removed from a virtual session when behavior disrupts learning. Removal may include:
- Disabling camera/microphone
- Removal from the virtual meeting
- Required follow-up meeting before return
Parents/guardians will be notified when removals occur.
Suspension from Online Systems
For serious or repeated misconduct, the School may suspend access to:
- Learning Management System (LMS)
- Live instructional sessions
- School email
- School-issued devices
Alternative assignments will be provided during suspension when feasible.
Suspension Types
- Virtual Suspension: Student is removed from live sessions but completes work asynchronously.
- Hybrid Suspension: Student temporarily loses hybrid center access.
- Full Suspension: Student is removed from all School activities for a defined period.
Grounds for Suspension
Suspension may occur for:
- Repeated threats or harassment
- Safety violations
- Cyberbullying
- Severe cheating/academic dishonesty
- Disruptive behavior that prevents instruction
- Technology misuse with harmful intent
Expulsion / Involuntary Withdrawal
Expulsion or involuntary withdrawal may be considered when:
- The student poses an ongoing safety risk
- Repeated major violations persist despite intervention
- Severe harassment or threats occur
- Illegal behavior is documented
- Technology misuse results in significant harm
- A parent/guardian refuses to comply with required support plans
Documentation must reflect that supportive interventions were attempted prior to expulsion/involuntary withdrawal when appropriate.
Parental Notification Protocol
Parents/guardians will be notified within 24–48 hours of any disciplinary action beyond classroom-level interventions. Notifications may include:
- Phone call
- Parent portal message
Serious incidents require immediate notification.
Discipline Appeals Process
Parents/guardians may appeal suspensions, expulsions, or significant disciplinary decisions.
Appeal Submission Timeline and Methods
Appeals must be submitted within 5 business days via email, parent portal, or written letter.
Appeal Review Steps
- Review of incident documentation
- Meeting with the family (virtual or in-person)
- Review of relevant policies and procedures
- Consultation with involved staff (as appropriate)
- Written decision issued
Final Decision Authority
The Executive Director (or designee) has final authority on appeals. Board involvement occurs only in cases involving expulsion, legal proceedings, or substantiated administrative policy violations.
