MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS PROTOCOLS

Identification of Crisis Situations

Crisis indicators may include, but are not limited to:

  • Suicidal ideation or statements
  • Threats of self-harm or harm to others
  • Sudden withdrawal or emotional collapse
  • Aggressive or dangerous behaviors
  • Evidence or reports of abuse or neglect
  • Significant distress reported by peers or caregivers

Crisis Response – Online Learning Environment

  • Stabilize communication with the student
  • Keep the student on camera when possible
  • Notify school leadership or counselor immediately
  • Contact parent/guardian
  • Engage emergency services if required
  • Document the incident thoroughly
  • Arrange follow-up supports and monitoring

Crisis Response – Hybrid Learning Environment

  • Move the student to a supervised, safe location
  • Alert the hybrid center director
  • Notify school leadership
  • Contact parent/guardian
  • Contact emergency services if needed
  • Develop a safety plan
  • Schedule a follow-up SST meeting

Re-entry Following a Crisis

Students may return to instruction following:

  • A parent/guardian conference
  • Development or review of a safety plan
  • Mental health clearance when required
  • Identification of necessary accommodations or supports
