SCHOOL-SPONSORED FIELD TRIPS
Purpose of Field Trips
Field trips support:
- Hands-on learning
- Real-world applications
- Cultural and social-emotional enrichment
- Career exploration
- Thrively-aligned passion projects
Virtual and hybrid students may participate whenever feasible.
Field Trip Approval Requirements
All field trips must be:
- Requested at least 30 days in advance
- Curriculum-aligned
- Approved by administration
- Within budget limits
- Supported by a risk assessment
Supervision Standards
- Ratios:
- Elementary: 1 adult per 8–10 students
- Middle: 1 adult per 10–12 students
- Chaperones must:
- Complete background checks
- Attend pre-trip briefings
- Follow supervision guidelines
- Use approved communication devices
Student Conduct Expectations
Students must:
- Follow instructions immediately
- Stay with their assigned group
- Behave respectfully in public
- Use devices appropriately
- Speak with school-appropriate language
- Demonstrate safety awareness
Misconduct may result in removal from future trips.
Transportation for Field Trips
- If the School provides transportation:
- Only insured, approved drivers may operate vehicles
- Seatbelts must be worn
- Students must remain seated
- Emergency contacts must be accessible
- If parents transport students:
- They assume all liability
- They must follow arrival/drop-off instructions
- Students may never drive themselves.
Medical, Dietary & Accessibility Support
Teachers must review:
- Medication needs
- Allergies
- Accessibility requirements
- Special accommodations
Supports must be provided when feasible.
